The Vacant Throne

Introduction

22nd of Jinar, 133rd Year of Assembly
(1067th Year of Nerath)
21st Hour
Lonecross

The last of you to arrive at the White Shark Inn in Lonecross is the first one buying a round of drinks. Even though the sun has not set, the common room is already filled with people looking to wash down the dirt from a dusty road or hard day’s labor.

You are departing tomorrow morning to Assembly, but tonight you can enjoy the company of fellow travelers and raise a glass that the Raven Queen has not claimed your soul today.

DM’s Notes:

Please use the comment section to make some introductions and whatnot here. The next post is the beginning of the first adventure.

Obsidian Portal does not easily allow 3 figure dates, so all the Adventure Log posts will be in the Nerathan Calendar years, instead of Year of Assembly reckoning. Top of the posts will list the in-game date (matched to the posting date).

Lonecross is just over 3 days ride (approximately 130 miles) from Assembly to the west. You will be traveling while guarding a wagon for the trip, moving at around 25 miles per day.

Overlook is approximately 10 days ride (400 miles) east of Lonecross by the road, and Ravenscar another 12 days ride (480 miles) beyond that. Steelhaven is around to 15 days (just under 600 miles) southeast of Lonecross, by road.

One month ago, Ishmea was travelling from Ravenscar toward Assembly (via Overlook)... In Overlook, he met… They travelled together toward Assembly.

Introduction

Kriv Vargrull set out from Steelhaven, with from Sir Martin Forstall instructions to seek out and meet with an old friend (?) of his in Overlook, or one of (?) aids, who may be able to use Kriv’s skills or put him in touch with someone who can, and perhaps a commision in alocal garrison. But on arrival in Overlook Kriv found that (?) and his aides have moved on to Assembly. So Kriv set out along the trade route to Assembly, and who knows who he will run into and what adventure lays ahead in wait for him

Introduction

Ishmea arrives at the White Shark Inn watching the carbon-folk ingesting liquids. He places an order for a container of some liquid, having learned that it is the price of a seat in one of these establishments. He sits, he observes, he waits…

Introduction

Kriv arrives at the White shark Inn tired, dusty and thirsty after his long but uneventful journey from Steelhaven, after traveling to overlook in search of his mentors friend and aides, and finding that they had left for Assembly just prior to his Arrival at Overlook. having heard rumors about increased banditry on the trade routes Kriv signed on with a merchant caravan earning a few paltry silver for acting as a caravan guard. He enters the inn and looks for a corner to sit and watch the comings and goings, and to watch for potential movers and shakers, while he spends some of his hard earned silver on a decent cooked meal and some refreshments, and perhaps better paying employeement

Introduction

The inn was unusually busy this evening. Recent bandit activity forced travellers to leave the open roads at night and take shelter in the safety of communities like Lonecross. His adventuring companions, Spelle and Vaetta, made arrangements for lodging while Vordr waited in the Common Room.

Vordr did not like crowds of strangers. The vikingr prefered the dark silence of the Deep Roads or the vast isolation of the Great Sea. His heels were sore from a hard day’s travel, and although he was not a particularly social dwarf, the only empty seats were at a table occupied by a crystalline creature and a dragonborn.

“Where are you headed?” he asks, sitting down on the sturdy bench.

Introduction

“Dwarf, Assembly is the destination. From which direction did the wind blow you?” inquires Ishmea, attempting to use the colloquial he recalled from a conversation overheard in Overlook between a dwarf and a human.

Introduction

” I am from Steelhaven originally, by way of Overlook more recently, as I was to meet my mentor’s friend, but failed to find him there. So my fortune finds me on the road to assembly and who knows what adventure’s and duty the fates and Kord have awaiting for myself in the future. What about you Sir Jarnhamer and Sir Ishmea, if I may be so bold as to ask the pair of you” states the dragonborn in a formal tone, so as to not offend these possible new associates.

Introduction

“Dragonborn, I am tracking another of shardmind, though we share nothing in common, save our crystalline form. I have been looking for traces of his trail since Ravenscar.”, Ishmea relays without any sign of emotion. “Have you seen another crystalline creature, similar in appearance to me?”

Introduction

kriv furrows his brow in thought, then replies, “I am afraid not, You are the first of your kind i have ever laid my eyes upon. Can I enquire why you are seeking him”.

Introduction

“I have seen many strange things in the Deep Roads,” Vordr replies, “but like this dragonborn, you are the first of your kind I have seen. Are you a sub-race of the earth elemental? My client is a wizard who studies elementals and may know others of your race. We set out on the morrow, if you are interested in learning more.”

Vordr bows his head to Kriv. “The dragonborn stood at the side of my ancestors in the Battle of the Spears of Ark’al. I too am heading to Assembly. Perhaps we could travel together? Bandits may think twice about attacking a caravan guarded by a dwarven fighter and a dragonborn warlord.”

Introduction

“Dragonborn, this shardmind has taken something which I have sworn to return to its rightful owner”, replies Ishmea.

Introduction

Turning toward Vordr, “Dwarf, I am a construct, formed from scattered crystal shard fragments of the original Living Gate. My crystalline elements are less of physical, and more shards of another period and world. I welcome your company along the road to Assembly”.

Introduction

“As do I, there is always added safety in numbers” replies Kriv. “I have studied tactics and military history, but I have never heard of this Battle of the Spears of Arkel, perhaps you can tell me of it on our travel to Assembly, and if we run into any trouble on the road surely Kord and Moradin will favor our blades” states Kriv as he bows his head in return towards Vordr. Kriv then turns towards Ishmea and States “and If our paths cross with this other Shardmind you are tracking perhaps we can assist you in retrieving the pilfered object and returning it to its rightful owner as honor dictates”. Kriv then stands and bows towards Vordr and Ishmea then raises his flagon in salute and states formally “Hear is to new allies and friends, and may our paths be kind to us, with fortune and the fates smiling at our backs with the blessings of our chosen gods, and may our always blades swiftly cut swaths through our enemies standing in our way, like a sithe through harvest grain”.

Introduction

“I have never met or killed another shardmind. Your assistance would be appreciated, Dragonborn. Your salute amuses me. I have not yet learned the social customs shared by shardmind”.
